ARTIST'S STATEMENT
"I portray strong people actively engaging with and improving the worlds they inhabit"
Karima Duchamp’s practise is intuitive: with clay, on paper or free canvas, the artist manipulates, cowardly grip, gets rid of an academic practice of sculpture and drawing. She deploys landscapes, intertwined with primitive architectures and ghostly bodies, so light that they seem ready to fly, to disappear.
The last directions taken by the artist: frontality, chromatic intensification, post-expressionist power confirm the jamming of the tracks, an aesthetic experience of materials and forms that overlap or hybridize themselves.
