ARTIST STATEMENT

Karima DUCHAMP is a French ceramic artist and painter based in Mulhouse, France. Through her proposals bringing together three mediums, clay, painting, and drawing, she seeks to maintain a dialogue and a reflection on the human and the emotional potential of vulnerability, fragmentation, and intimacy. These themes find expression in vibrantly colored sculptures and large-scale paintings that often develop from essential aspects of clay and paint such as material composition, a process that strives to give meaning to time sedimented in a reduction of means.

She graduated with a M.F.A with Honors from l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Besançon and a Ceramic Diploma from La Maison de la Céramique in Mulhouse. Since then, she has followed her artistic explorations through residencies: in the United States, twice in Japan and in Germany.

Her work have won numerous awards and have been included in many individual and collective exhibitions around the world such as Paris Design Week, Collectible in Brussels, The Salon Art + Design in New York, Art Basel Design Miami and Art Basel Design  Basel and regularly with Moderne Gallery in Philadelphia. Her artworks belong to private and public collections such as Ariana Museum in Geneva, Siegburg Museum in Germany 8acquisition in 2022), and Yingge Museum in Taipei.

She is also a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Ateliers d'Art de France and the visual art structure Plan d'Est. She teaches during workshops as a ceramic instructor in schools and academies in France and abroad.
